cv. of carinata (brachystachys) X barilletii - Called the "Painted Feather" - One of the best known Vriesea hybrids - tall flattened spike is red in the center and blends to chartreuse yellow at the edges - the flowers are yellow w/green tips - larger than those of either parent - very vigorous and quick growing. (See JBS 38:171ill; 48:184,185ill & Jour. Soc. Nat. Hortic. France 1889:577) - Duval in 'The Bromeliads, 1990p132 gives the formula barilletii X brachystachys (?) - Bromeliad Treasury 1983 said, "A 15" upright rosette of soft green 1" x 12" leaves - a 2-1/2" x 6" spear shaped inflorescence - red in the center and light green to yellow along the edges - the scape is 10" w/green bracts at the base and red on top - yellow flowers".
