a much improved splendens with a tall brilliant spike - translates to 'Flaming Sword' in English. - Merkel said, "A selected type which has more prominent cross banding then the normal type - the upright coral red inflorescence is longer w/brighter color and often grows to 3' above the plant". " We have not been able to obtain a coloured photo of this cultivar but we do have one, also done by Richter, of {splendens var. formosa[(splendens var. formosa x splendens var. splendens) x splendens var. splendens]} remembering that the only difference between var. splendens and var. formosa is the colour of the leaf! .Splendens Group. Note: 11/2015. the cultivar name translation "Flaming Sword" is not to be confused with the wild V. splendens which in U.S.A. is also known as V. "Flaming Sword".
