Mature rosette to 60cms. diameter. Broad,grey/green slightly marbled leaves, with bold white median (central) variegation. Simple upright inflorescence to 1.8metres tall, yellow petals. Originally described in 1983 by Martinelli & Leme as V. atra var. variegata. Two slightly different but commonly confused populations in the same area resulted in Leme describing V. pseudoatra in 1999. However, the variegated form was never formally synonymised, although Leme advised (May, 2012) that V. atra var. variegata was described in error under the V. atra epithet. This variegate seems better named as a cultivar, as wild specimens are rare and isolated, not a distinct fertile population which breeds true. Reg.
