VRIESEA ‘Olifos’ | unknown, Little R * | ca 1980\'s | |
Origin ca 1980’s, probably Queensland. Plant obtained by Margaret Butcher, Adelaide in the mid 1990’s from Genny Vauhkonen, Qld, as Vr. fosteriana hybrid, JG 12096a. The recent upsurge in new Glyph hybrids prompted a look at some of the unnamed ‘old’ hybrids and this is just one. Apparently this plant had come from Olive Trevor, hence the name but its true origins are unknown. Ross Little, Pinegrove Nursery, NSW, has also been involved and the plant has great similarities in both leaf and inflorescence with other plants at the Pinegrove Nursery and their history is also clouded from the 1980’s. So if you are growing a Glyph Vriesea with similar history to that given it could well be ‘Olifos’. Mature rosette to 40 cms diameter x 25 cms. high, plant in spike to 70 cm high. Glyph Group. Reg.
