TILLANDSIA ‘Deep Red’ Takizawa, Hiroyuki 2014

Mature, open, rosette to 15cm.diameter x 12cm. high. Strongly recurving, scurfed silvery grey leaves, each to-2.0cm. wide and 18cm. long, tapering to a point, growing downward. Pendant, branched inflorescence to 15cm long, with silvery grey scape bracts with llghtly frosted, deep red floral bracts on multiple branches and white petals. T. grazielae is a saxicolous rare Brazilian species and grows downwards. This hybrid also grows downwards and shoots its very short inflorescence downwards. Foliage is baseball size. T. 'Deep Red' is a grex sibling of T. 'Spear and Sphere' and differs with its very short inflorescence (30cm long vs. 15cm long) and with less trichomes on spikes, resulting in deep red looking spikes.
