TILLANDSIA ‘Colibri’ | ? / Andy Siekkinen * | circa 2000 | |
Mature, open rosette to 2 ft. (60cm) diameter x 60cm. high In strong light, stiff, narrow, scurfed, bronzed grey-green leaves, tapering to a point. Erect, coral red-stemmed, branched inflorescence to 1 metre high with light green scape bracts tipped red and cream tubular flowers. Presumably an accidental hummingbird-generated hybrid in a central Mexican cactus nursery. A single blooming plant was growing in a seedling clump of T. albida there in 2010.. T. inopinata was the only other species there (both native to the region) that could reasonably be the pollen parent.. "Colibri" translates as "hummingbird". Reg. Doc. 6/2022 by Andy Siekkinen.
