TILLANDSIA ‘African Oddity’ Stamatis, George circa 1990

A single seedling survived from a very small grex., producing a short stem similar to T. funckiana but with many overlapping bulbous leaf bases and mid-green quill-like leaves. Plant grows to 20cm tall and has never bloomed even though seed was sown more than 20 years ago in South Africa. . Relocation of the plant from South Africa to Australia did slow down its progress (damage due to quarantine process) but now that the plant has finally started to recover it is hoped it will flower in the coming years. Photos show a young plant. Reg. Doc. 8/2016.
Country of origin: Queensland Australia
