TILLANDSIA ‘Abaco Snow’ ? / Cathcart D* <2008

Mature, upright, bulbous-based (8cms. wide) rosette to 35cms. diameter x 50cms. tall in bloom. Semi-terete, mostly glabrous with slight scurfing, mid-green, narrow (1cm. wide), long (to 35cms.) mostly straight, upright leaves, tapering to a thin point. Erect, glossy pink to red-branched inflorescence which has about 8 branches, each 1.5cm. wide x to 10cms. long. Inflorescence has bluish purple flowers and is 11cms. wide. The plant is larger than T. bulbosa with more and longer leaves. Originally wild-collected in 2008 by local resident Laine Snow in Great Abaco Island (Bahamas), from a densely-forested area not far from Little Harbour. Later Dennis Cathcart visited the collection locality where he found no other hybrids but that T. bulbosa and T. balbisiana grow together there and the only other bromeliad was T. utriculata in the vicinity. The cultivar name is a combination of the discovery place and the finder. Reg. Doc. 7/2015 by D. Cathcart.
