T. O'Reilly said, "A Hawaiian cultivar auctioned at the 1994 WBC - donated by Bob Okizaki - A small compact bright pinkish-red rosette w/undulating leaves having rolled under strongly apiculate tips - white dots and spots w/the center having the appearance of a rose at maturity - center color is light pinkish white for 2/3 of the length of the central leaves - 'Loke' is Hawaiian for 'rose' and 'lani' is 'heavenly' so translation is 'Heavenly Rose'. Incorrectly known as 'The Rose' in Australia. See Bromeliads- A Guide to the beautiful Neoregelia by Zaghini 1994.
