NEOREGELIA ‘Angrason Tower’ Ryan, Avon / Graham Thomson* circa 1990s

Mature rosette to 45cm. diameter. Unusual, mutated, wavy, twisted, crimson-bronze leaves with pink tips, fine spines and subtle silver scurf indument on both sides. Over time, a single rosette produces a thick woody stem 3cm. thick x 25cm. high with no sign of flowering but with many basal pups. Originally obtained nameless from Whangarei, Northland (N.Z.) grower Avon Ryan but thought to have Neoregelia spectabilis in its breeding. The cultivar name 'Angrason' is the name of the growers' garden in Te Toro, South Auckland, derived from an anagram of their names - Ann & Graham Thomson. Reg. Doc. 7/2020 by Graeme Barclay.
