NEOREGELIA ‘Scar’ Esterhuysen J. / Barclay G.* 2010

Mature rosette to 50cms. diameter. Dusky brick red leaves to 8cms. wide, with dark brown spines and heavy scurfing, more so on the under-sides. Seed grown in New Zealand from cross made in South Africa. Named after the villain Lion character in the animated movie 'The Lion King', in honour of its African origin. The scurf coatings are easily scratched and rubbed off revealing the red leaf underneath - giving the unique appearance of "scars", hence the name. Grex siblings = 'Lion King', 'Mufasa', 'King Simba'. Reg. Doc. 2/2015 by Graeme Barclay.
