BILLBERGIA ‘Henry Teuscher’ Foster, M.B. 1962

Very large to 60cms. tall x 40cms. diameter grey green scurfy, open urn-like rosette with few leaves, heavy brown spines and silver cross-banding. The arching, compact spike has an intense pyramidalis-type inflorescence of large, trichome-laden shell-pink scape bracts, woolly white ovaries, reddish violet recoiled petals and prominent gold stamens. Named in honour of Henry Teuscher (1891-1984) the Berlin-born landscape architect, horticulturalist, botanist who designed the Montreal Botanical Gardens (Quebec) and was its first curator.
