Genus: ZizkaeaZizkaea is a genus of the subfamily Tillandsioideae. It is named for German botanist Georg Zizka, who assisted with the collaborative multi-locus DNA sequence phylogeny and morphology study and taxonomic revision of the Tillandsioideae subfamily. (Barfuss et al. 2016. Phytotaxa 279(1): 001-097). Formerly part of the genus Vriesea, the sole known species, Zizkaea tuerckheimii, is endemic to Dominican Republic, where it grows saxicolously at 450-1000m elevation.Number of accepted species in this genus is 1 (source: species counts in the Encyclopaedia of Bromeliads). |
