Genus: Vriesea

Vriesea is a genus of the subfamily Tillandsioideae. The name is for Willem Hendrik de Vriese, Dutch botanist and physician (1806-1862). Its species are widespread over Mexico, Central America, South America and the West Indies, where they mainly grow as ephiphytes, but also sometimes terrestrially and saxicolously on or among rocks, cliffs and bluffs.
