Genus: Lutheria

Lutheria is a genus of the subfamily Tillandsioideae. It is named in honor of American bromeliad expert Harry E. Luther (1952-2012), after the multi-locus DNA sequence phylogeny and morphology study and taxonomic revision of the Tillandsioideae subfamily. (Barfuss et al. 2016. Phytotaxa 279(1): 001-097). Lutheria contains 4 species, all formerly part of the genus Vriesea.
