Genus: HylaeaicumHylaeaicum is a genus of the subfamily Bromelioideae. It was elevated to genus status in 2021 from Neoregelia subgenus Hylaeaicum after extensive studies of all species in the group (Re-evaluation of the Amazonian Hylaeaicum based on neglected morphological traits and molecular evidence - Leme et al, 2021). The genus is named after the ancient forest region known as Hylaea, encompasing the Amazonian basin regions of Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela and Brazil, where the 16 stolonfiferous taxa reside as epiphytes.Number of accepted species in this genus is 12 (source: species counts in the Encyclopaedia of Bromeliads). |
