Genus: HechtiaHechtia is a genus of the subfamily Pitcairnioideae. The genus is named for Julius Gottfried Conrad Hecht (1771-1837), German counselor to the King of Prussia. Species are native to Mexico, Central America, and Texas where they grow terrestrially in dry, rocky and cliff habitats. Except for H. gayorum, all species of the genus are dioecious, with separate male or female plants.Number of accepted species in this genus is 100 (source: species counts in the Encyclopaedia of Bromeliads). |
