Genus: Encholirium

Encholirium is a genus of the subfamily Pitcairnioideae. The genus name is from the Greek words enchos (spear) and leiron (lily). The entire genus is endemic to Brazil, where species occur exclusively in arid, rocky conditions. They are commonly confused with Dyckia due to their spiny habit, but have different leaf and floral structures.

Number of accepted species in this genus is 47 (source: species counts in the Encyclopaedia of Bromeliads).
