Genus: Canistrum

Canistrum is a genus of the subfamily Bromelioideae. The genus name is from the Greek word kanistron (a kind of basket carried on the head). All species are endemic to the Atlantic Forest biome (Mata Atlantica Brasileira), located in southeastern Brazil. They are divided into two subgenera: Canistrum and Cucullatanthus.
