Thank you Kevin, Tom, Charles, Dgmisumi and all :-)

Kevin, all my plants are the same clones of C. siedelii , hence using
another clone would be an advantage as you mention happens in the
wild,will hopefully find one soon.

Charles, I have been growing bromeliads from seed, for over 30 years and
usually get 100% germination and success, they are a little slower than
petunias though not greatly difficult otherwise.

I have made a PDF file on growing Broms from seed is 310kb if any one
wants a copy sent to them (even if only to check my spelling) it is
free and hopefully can carbon copy ok??

IF interested send and email to me ; daylilygrower at aapt.net.au
with the Subject line "BROM PDF."
include parenthesis .

Tom yes I do have seed and if you would like to email me off the forum
at ; daylilygrower at aapt.net.au
will talk about swaping seed . Though feel that Pitcairnias may be a
restricted seed import to Australia.

and Dgmisumi, thank you for the acknowledgment .

cheers all allan ladd
Warm temperate climate

  Greetings,
Although I've little experience with setting seed of Canistropsis,
transfering pollen between two or more plants of the same species should
produce the desired effect. If not, there would be no way the plant
could have existed in nature, other than by natural vegetative
propagation ( offsets). For a time there was some debate as to whether
this plant was a legitamate species. As the plant was "discovered" by
Alvim Seidel, it had been thought to be a hybrid that popped up at their
nursery, oweing to the fact that they produce their bromeliads from
seed. Evidently a wild population was rediscovered as witnessed in Elton
Leme's series of books, finally being elevated to true species status.
As I know it, two color forms exist, one with red bracts, and another in
yellow. If a brown form exists, I'm wondering that it may be the result
of crossing these two forms? All the Best, Kevin
