Greetings,
Although I've little experience with setting seed of Canistropsis,
transfering pollen between two or more plants of the same species should produce the
desired effect. If not, there would be no way the plant could have existed
in nature, other than by natural vegetative propagation ( offsets). For a time
there was some debate as to whether this plant was a legitamate species. As
the plant was "discovered" by Alvim Seidel, it had been thought to be a hybrid
that popped up at their nursery, oweing to the fact that they produce their
bromeliads from seed. Evidently a wild population was rediscovered as
witnessed in Elton Leme's series of books, finally being elevated to true species
status. As I know it, two color forms exist, one with red bracts, and another
in yellow. If a brown form exists, I'm wondering that it may be the result of
crossing these two forms? All the Best, Kevin
