Material is lacking purely because this is a nurserymen's name. This is a
term I use for names given which are not registered cultivar names nor are
they properly described botanical names. The only person who knows will be
the nurseryman who coined the phrase. The species name means 'different
forms' so I cannot see the taxonomists coming to the rescue. You could, of
course, register this form as a cultivar through the proper channels but
you would need to think up a different name to 'rope form' because this is
a description and can refer to lots of other Tillandsias. You would also
have to convince the nurseryman to change his records also.
